For nearly 100 years, Lawrence Boxing Club has been part of the Lymington community, welcoming generations of local people through its doors.
Based at the Alan Farrar Gymnasium on Marsh Lane, the club has a proud history in amateur boxing, with dedicated coaches and volunteers who have helped keep that tradition alive.
Today, we welcome everyone from young children putting on boxing gloves for the first time to teenagers and adults looking to improve their fitness, learn new skills and enjoy the sport. Some of our members go on to compete, while others simply enjoy coming along, keeping active and being part of the club.
We're particularly proud of the opportunities we provide for young people. Boxing teaches much more than technique. It encourages discipline, focus, respect, concentration and confidence, giving children skills that can make a real difference as they grow up.
Boxing also has an important role to play beyond the competitive side of the sport. Every Friday, our Parkinson's Boxing Sessions bring together people living with Parkinson's for exercise, movement and friendship. Led by Paul, these sessions have become a valued part of the club, offering a welcoming place where people can stay active, enjoy themselves and support one another.
There's plenty of hard work, but there's also laughter, conversation and a real sense of togetherness. For many of those who attend, it's as much about the people they've met as it is about the boxing itself.
That's what Lawrence Boxing Club has always been about. People coming together, looking out for one another and sharing something they enjoy.
As we approach our centenary, we're proud of our history and the generations who have helped shape the club. Most importantly, we want to make sure it continues to be a place where people of all ages and abilities feel welcome for many years to come.
